OE-spec shock absorber (damper) engineered for the Mercedes-Benz W164 M-Class. Restores factory ride control, braking stability and tyre contact after mileage-related wear or leakage. Sold per side — select Front Left/Right or Rear Left/Right.
What this is / isn’t:
Included: 1× shock absorber
Not included: Coil spring, top mount/bearing, bump stop/dust boot, air bellow or compressor.
Important: Choose the correct version for Standard Suspension or AIRMATIC (air-suspension). AIRMATIC uses a different strut assembly.
Key Features:
OE-Matched Damping Curves: Correct compression/rebound rates for W164 chassis and engine weight.
Gas-Pressurised Monotube/Twin-tube (as supplied): Consistent fade-free performance and quick response over rough roads.
Exact Fitment: Correct eye/bolt or pin mounts, rod length and body diameter for a no-mod install.
Quiet NVH: Internal guides and seals reduce knock/rattle when driving over sharp edges.
Corrosion Protection: Phosphate/painted body and hardened chrome piston rod for long service life.
Compatibility:
M-Class (W164) — 2005–2011: ML280 / ML300 / ML320 / ML350 / ML420 / ML450 / ML500 / ML550 / ML63 AMG (match by suspension type).
GL-Class (X164) — 2007–2012: many variants share the same dampers* (confirm by VIN/OE).
Drivetrain: 4MATIC and 2WD where applicable (dampers may differ — match by VIN).
Chassis Options:
Standard steel-spring suspension → use Conventional Damper (this listing).
AIRMATIC air-suspension → requires Air Strut (not this item).
AMG/SPORT package → uses specific rate dampers — select the Sport/AMG option if shown.
Typical OE Reference Families (guide only):
A164-320-… / A164-323-… (front/rear & supplier variations; AMG and AIRMATIC have unique numbers).
Always order by the exact OE part number on your vehicle or confirm via VIN.
Symptoms of Worn Shocks:
Bouncy/floaty ride, nose-dive under braking, or rear squat on acceleration
Uneven tyre wear or cupping
Oil misting/leak on damper body
Clunk over bumps; poor stability with crosswinds or towing
Installation Notes (Pro Tips):
Replace in axle pairs (both fronts or both rears) for balanced handling.
Torque all fasteners at ride height to avoid bushing preload.
Inspect/replace top mounts, bump stops and dust boots while accessible.
After fitment, do a wheel alignment if front components were disturbed.
For AIRMATIC vehicles: if converting or mixing parts, note that air struts are different assemblies and require separate procedures.
What’s Included / Not Included:
✅ 1× Shock absorber (choose Front/Rear and Left/Right)
❌ Coil spring, top mount/bearing, bump stop, dust boot, hardware
Q&A
Q1: How do I know if I have AIRMATIC?
Look for an air line into the strut and an onboard air compressor; the cluster may show “AIRMATIC” height modes. If yes, order air struts, not conventional shocks.
Q2: Will this fit the GL-Class X164?
Many X164 models share dams with W164 on the same suspension spec. Match by VIN/OE number to be sure.
Q3: Do I need special tools?
Standard suspension tools are sufficient. Use new self-locking nuts/bolts where specified.
Q4: Should I replace springs as well?
Not mandatory, but check for sagging or cracked coils — replace if worn for best results.
